The Fender® Custom Shop '55-'56 Telecaster® pickups are faithful reproductions of the pickups used in the Telecaster's "White Guard" era. The bridge pickup features hand-chamfered, staggered Alnico 5 magnets, delivering the same power and rawness as the original. The neck pickup features an Alnico 3 magnet, delivering a sweet midrange and a tight low end.

During the White Guard era, Telecasters transitioned from Alnico 3 to higher-output Alnico 5 magnets, and the bridge pickup adopted a staggered magnet. This staggered design provided clearer spooling and more balanced output for each string. These updates, along with the adoption of steel bridge saddles, resulted in a faster attack and a crisper high end that's affectionately known as "twang tone."
